LESA

Formed off of Leading Edge Speed Skating Club, LESA (Leading Edge Student Assembly) is a student group which consists of middle to high school students who work for the club in the form of community service. LESA has been approved by MCPS (Montgomery County Public Schools) to offer Student Service Learning hours to public school students. For students who attend a school from a different county or a private school, LESA is willing to work with whatever procedure each school requires to provide students with deserved hours or credits for their participation. Similar to any student government body, LESA gives students opportunities to experience everything from event planning to graphic design for the cause of providing those of all backgrounds an equal chance to be a part of short track speed skating. LESA differs from the conventional community services that most students participate in because of the leadership and social skills—directly applicable to college and the real world—that the positions require. Students also can work hands-on by working with the younger children, disabled children, etc. of the club on ice or on dry-land practices. Overall, LESA is a flexible program created for the general mission of promoting a sport for a large variety of people in our community.
